Good Mornin' Handsome - SOLD

I live in a city but there is a house somewhere nearby that has roosters because I hear this guy crowing every morning when I am out walking my dog Max.  Research on why roosters crow done by Takashi Yoshimura found that roosters settled into a 23.8 hour day and would begin crowing the same time every day, just before dawn and the lighting did not seem to factor in.  It was concluded that the birds must have an internal body clock that tells them when to crow.  Another interesting observation was that the most dominate rooster was the one who start the crowing off, lending credence to the idea that crowing is about marking territory and asserting dominance. the researcher said, "Our preliminary data suggest that the highest ranked rooster has priority in breaking the dawn and lower ranking roosters are patient enough to wait and follow the highest ranked rooster each morning."

Kingfisher -,SOLD

I am completing a series of birds painted with the palette knife.  I am enjoying the way the paint can be moved about with the knife and I love the texture.  The paint is thicker than I normally have on a canvas so the drying time if longer but the effect is nice.  These little birds are 6" x 6" pm gallery wrapped canvas.  That simply means that the sides are 1 1/2" deep and they are painted so the painting does not require a frame unless you just want to frame it.  Recently someone did purchase one of my gallery wrapped birds and did frame him in a wonderful frame.  I am including that here as an example of how they an be framed.

I'm Back - SOLD

I painted outside today.  The birds are back and my favorite are the hummingbirds and they told me this week to fill up their feeder.  This is a Eastern Bluebird.  The reference photo was provided by
Marcus Moller.  This is an original oil on a linen panel 8" x 10". 
 

Pretty in Pink - SOLD

I have enjoyed having time off to paint in the afternoons.  Today I painted this little bird from a photo.  It is really hard to paint from photos as you have to remember to add "roundness" not to allow the painting to flatten out like the image in the photo.  This photo was supplied by Lori.

Blue Bird - SOLD

It is so frustrating to try and get the colors just right on the computer monitor. Three people have recently told me that their paintings were more beautiful "in person" when they received them.  I think the vivid color of oils are hard to capture online as hard as I try.  Anyway.....I hope you find Bluebird a piece that you like.
