Little Lamb - Gift

A little lamb for my friend.  I have been taking an online class from Chantel Barber and the focus has been on the painting the figure.  I have learned alot from Chantel who is an impressionistic painter who works in acrylics.  Her work is exceptional and unique.  When she starts a portrait she uses form and color to create the figure, not line drawings.  Chantel states that hard edges and lines flatten shapes and therefore blocking in the figure or portrait with color and form while also paying attention to angles and negative spaces will assist in creating a looser representation of your subject.  I love this way of painting even though it is much different than what I have done in the past.

This little lamb is obviously not one of my figures but I did try to create interesting edges.  That is not always as easy as it may sound.

Dinner Date - SOLD

This painting is a commission I finished this week.  I have been enchanted by the stories of redbirds and their meaning to many people.  As I mentioned once before, I have heard that when cardinals appear, angels are near.  The story that led to this painting is one of a dear couple who fed the birds and watched them from their window each morning.  The husband is no longer living but his wife still remembers their times together and the rich life they shared.  A life that has touched many people over the years and I am one of those people.  I truly hope that this little painting will be a reminder of their life, love and blessing to others.

I Love the Beach

I have the cutest little friend, Evie.  Her parents shared a couple of photos with me and I have painted her twice.  This is the first one of her on the beach with her sand bucket.  She has both hands raised and the sweetest look on her face as if she is worshiping the beach.  I can identify.

This painting is of my beautiful friend Jenna.  Jenna is patiently waiting for her first child to be born.  Nothing is more wonderful than this miracle.

Oscar - SOLD

It is always a sad time to say goodbye to a dear friend.  Oscar was the beloved pet to one of my friends. He stayed by her side in her office every day and shared many "secrets" and conversations along the way.  I chose to create a portrait from the photo she submitted to me.  I hope I captured his personality.

Losin' It

I am at the beach painting and I could not wait to finish this painting from a photo reference from Jenna Dyar.  Jenna took this photo of a little girl playing soccer on the beach in Costa Rica.  The little girl is losing her bathing suit and Jenna said about one minute after her photo the bottoms disappeared.  It is very sunny today and the water is very blue and teal and viridian.  This photo was taken in the evening or on a day when the water was not so full of color so the challenge for me is to tone it down so that it will not compete with the little girl which is the focus.

This is a 12" x 24" gallery wrapped canvas.  The sides are 1 1/2" and painted.  Price is $250.  If interested you can email me at paintingbythelake@gmail.com

Laid Back - SOLD

I found a reference photo on morguefile for this little guy laid back and sleeping soundly.  I feel this "laid back" today, painting, walking and reading at the beach.

The challenge on DPW this week was to use the pantone colors for 2016.  This is a 6" x 6" oil on gessobord.
